The end of an era. John Peel was so influential for so many people, both for the bands whose music he gave an outlet to and the loyal audience to whom that music was exposed. Always his own man, always ahead of the game, Peely was unique and much loved. In a world of uniformity, he cut a joyous swathe of his own.
On a personal note, although laterly I have not listened to his radio shows as much, I could attribute a good 50% of the music in my own collection to having been bought as a direct result of hearing it on The John Peel Show.
